Boombox & my pale ale fixation

While you might not want to judge the proverbial book by it’s cover, I always judge a brewery by it’s pale ale. And that’s not just because it’s a relatively simple beer to make, but rather because it’s my absolute favourite style. So I can judge. And I do.

Thankfully 2018 is turning out to be the year of the pale ale. Perhaps because IPAs went too far (milkshake IPAs…shudder), or the shelves just got over saturated. Or the NEIPA style caused too much confusion. I don’t really know why it happened, but because I win in the end I don’t really care.

So I was very pleased to bring a 4-pack of Boombox Brewing Company’s Arcade Glow Pale Ale to the ranch.

It pours that wonderfully cloudy pale yellow with a perfectly compact head. But that’s no where near the best part. It’s the flavour of course. Definitely citrusy notes, but well balanced with the right amount of bitter to make me happy.

It’s the kind of beer I want around right now. I love a good classic pale ale, but these newer variants are working for me and I’m ok with a bit of change and variety. As fresh hopped beer season is showing me, all the pale ales are what I want right now. Except maybe fruited pale ales.

But let’s not forget context here either. Arcade Glow Pale Ale in the Cariboo. It’s a mouthful. And It’s my mouthful. And I was the very first pioneering spirit to conspire to bring a can all the way to this remote region of the province. And the very first to ever enjoy it up here. Do I recommend you enjoy it too? Hell yes. Feel free to visit the Cariboo and lug it along with you too. You can follow in my footsteps and maybe be the second person ever to do so.
